Sonos Compatible Intercom is a native Ubuntu Touch application for sending push-to-talk announcements to compatible Sonos speakers on your local network. It is vibe coded using AI.

Sonos Compatible Intercom is an independent third-party application. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Sonos, Inc. Sonos is a trademark of Sonos, Inc.

Features:
• Automatically discover Sonos speakers on the local network
• Optional manual discovery using the IP address of a Sonos speaker
• Select one or multiple rooms
• Hold-to-talk voice announcements
• Near-simultaneous playback to multiple selected rooms
• Adjustable microphone gain
• Adjustable announcement speaker volume
• Automatically restore each speaker's previous volume and mute state after an announcement
• Selected rooms, discovery settings and volume settings are stored locally on the device
• No Sonos cloud account is required

Sonos Compatible Intercom communicates directly with compatible Sonos speakers on the local network. It does not use a developer-operated cloud service, create an account, or send telemetry.

Compatibility and testing:

Sonos Compatible Intercom has been tested on a Fairphone 5 running Ubuntu Touch 24.04-2.0 with Sonos S1 speakers.

Grouped Sonos speakers are not supported as a group playback target. Each room is addressed as an individual speaker. Multiple rooms can be selected at the same time and playback starts very close together in testing, but perfect synchronization is not guaranteed.

If a selected speaker is part of an existing Sonos group, the application temporarily addresses that speaker individually and makes a best-effort attempt to restore its previous state afterward.

Sonos S2 has not yet been tested.

The application uses the local Sonos UPnP/SOAP interface. Sonos firmware changes may affect compatibility in the future. Feedback from other Ubuntu Touch devices and Sonos models is welcome.

Permissions:

• Networking, required for Sonos discovery, local Sonos control and temporarily serving the recorded announcement to selected speakers.
• Microphone, required to record push-to-talk announcements.
• Audio, required for PulseAudio microphone access used by the recorder pipeline.

Privacy:

Sonos Compatible Intercom does not collect telemetry or communicate with the developer's servers.

Discovery settings, selected rooms, microphone gain and announcement volume are stored only in the application's local storage.

The latest voice announcement is recorded into the application's private local storage and is made temporarily available over the local network so the selected Sonos speakers can play it. A later recording overwrites the previous announcement file.
