Signal Unofficial - 0.1.22

Experimental native Signal messaging for Ubuntu Touch. Not affiliated with or endorsed by Signal. Version 0.1.22 refines conversation navigation and layout: composer emoji selection supports multiple picks without closing, reaction selection closes after one, quick-reaction shortcuts are removed from the message ellipsis menu, the ellipsis is right-aligned, conversation media moves into the title bar next to the right-most hamburger, redundant Earlier/Latest/Contact/Conversations controls are removed, conversations open at the newest message, title-bar spacing is normalized, and long Diagnostics content is directly scrollable. Version 0.1.21 fixes immediate restart persistence for notification defaults, message previews and the rest of the public settings, including per-conversation notification overrides; it also makes all app-owned sheets/dialogs scrollable in constrained landscape/small viewports and removes changelog text from About. Version 0.1.20 updates the emoji favourites. Version 0.1.19 uses the standard header height with connection changes as toasts and makes received stickers appear reliably. Version 0.1.18 shows received stickers from packs you do not have by installing that pack (can be turned off in Settings). Version 0.1.17 uses the standard Ubuntu Touch header with back and menu icons, hides empty sticker packs and lets packs be removed from the app. Version 0.1.16 makes the sticker page keyboard-aware and scrollable on every screen size and renders WebP stickers. Version 0.1.15 uses system theme icons for the composer actions and shows larger emoji in the picker. Version 0.1.14 uses the new app logo and fixes the 0.1.13 build failure. Version 0.1.13 restores the normal Ubuntu Touch status bar/window style, adds SecureMail-style unread conversation cards, hides empty chats outside search, completes the installed-sticker picker with pack tabs/search/previews/install/send, adds a searchable multi-page Signal-style emoji/reaction picker, moves message actions under an ellipsis menu, and replaces composer text actions with one row of thin-line icons. Read receipts remain opt-in and Off by default; typing indicators remain unimplemented. Reactions, images, GIFs, video, ordinary audio files, documents and stickers remain experimental; view-once and Signal voice-note media remain unsupported.

A Qt/Lomiri interface with a local signal-cli engine: no Electron, no embedded Signal Desktop and no remotely hosted message bridge. Link it to your existing Signal account using a QR code. Send and receive text/Unicode emoji, reactions, images, animated GIFs, video, audio files, documents and installed stickers in direct chats and existing groups. Old chat history is not imported when linking.

Diagnostics are available from the hamburger menu and the system journal. They record engine lifecycle, RPC method names, timings, QR render state and scrubbed errors without intentionally logging message bodies, recipients, account IDs, QR/link URIs, safety numbers, credentials or JSON-RPC parameters. A private scrubbed signal-cli log is kept for failure analysis. Unexpected-exit summaries include only log bytes appended during the current start, rather than replaying old errors.

The keyboard-safe composer includes centered Paste, Copy draft, Emoji, Hide keyboard and Send controls; Enter inserts a newline. Settings, forms and dialogs are scrollable and responsive in portrait/landscape. Includes dark/light mode, a top-right hamburger, versioned About dialog, immediately saved drafts/settings, global-default plus per-conversation notification overrides, read receipts that are opt-in and Off by default, quiet hours, clipboard-friendly safety-number verification and JSON settings backup/restore.

No audio/video calls, stories, view-once media or voice-note media. Ordinary audio-file attachments are supported, but Signal voice notes are not displayed or sent. Incoming call offers create a chat notice: “[contact name] tried to call you, but calls are not supported here.” Calls cannot be answered in this app.

Notifications use NextAgenda's calendar-reminder Lomiri Postal presentation path and an original notification sound. The actively visible conversation suppresses duplicate foreground alerts; locked/backgrounded messages remain eligible according to their conversation policy. The local engine must remain running to receive messages. This app has no server-side Ubuntu push bridge; suspension or OS termination can interrupt receiving and notifications. Device lifecycle configuration may be required and is not a reliability guarantee.

JSON backups exclude credentials, linked-device keys, message history and drafts by default. Optional secret export is UNENCRYPTED and requires explicit consent plus a cleanly stopped engine. Device-key restore is restricted to empty, disconnected storage with matching engine versions. Never operate two copies of the same linked-device snapshot. Prefer importing settings and linking a fresh device; the optional state snapshot is not Signal's official backup or migration format.

Local settings, drafts, messages and engine state are private app files but are not encrypted at rest by this application. Copy explicitly places text on the system clipboard. A send whose outcome is uncertain is marked “delivery unknown”; manual retry may duplicate it. This is not a full Signal Desktop replacement or an independently security-audited client. Actual device layout, live Signal, notification and restart testing remain required before treating this experimental source as a validated release.
